Highlights
In August 2014, WFP plans to reach 815,000 vulnerable people with emergency food and nutrition assistance, out of which 618,000 will be through general food distributions. This includes an additional 25,000 more beneficiaries than last month, identified by WFP cooperating partners as requiring assistance.
In the light of the expected heavy flooding and inaccessibility to certain areas, WFP is prepositioning food for 3,000 beneficiaries in Mopti and Timbuktu regions as part of August deliveries.
Situation Update
There are still tensions between armed groups in the North. The security situation still remains sensitive and unpredictable. There are certain areas that are inaccessible due to bad roads and that require assistance such as Tenenkou (Mopti region), Youré and Somadougou villages (Mopti region).
Concerns have been expressed by WFP partners regarding security and humanitarian access to northern regions. More resources and security are necessary.
