Humera Deceber 12/2012 More than 1230 farmers are developing 6000 hectares land through irrigation in Kafta Humera Woreda, Western Tigray Zone during the current dry season, the woreda agriculture and rural development office said. Office deputy Head, Sesen Kahsay told ENA on Tuesday that so far the farmers have covered over 2450 of the stated area of land with vegetables and fruits as well as various crops. Sesen said the farmers are developing the land by harnessing rivers and using water wells. The head said nearly 90 of the farmers are women. So far the farmers have utilized over 1650 quintals fertilizer to develop the land. Over 481,100 quintals output was obtained from an area of more than 3000 hectares land developed through irrigation during the previous budget year, Sesen said.
