Mauritania: Qatar Charity's Current Mauritania Water Program

Throughout several states in Mauritania, Qatar Charity is currently drilling four wells at a total cost of QAR 1 million (USD 275,000) in order to provide drinking water for around 20,000 people who have difficulty obtaining water in remote parts of the country. A safe drinking water delivery program for 2000 people in the municipality of Al-Aria, state of Atararzh has also been established to reach the inhabitants who suffer from a continued lack of safe drinking water.

The municipality of Al-Aria was provided a 20-ton water tanker truck that has helped significantly reduce the suffering of the population, which has extreme difficulty in accessing safe drinking water. The water tank provided the population of the municipality with drinking water twice a day and regularly passes through the villages, benefitting over twenty villages in the municipality of Al-Aria.

Other recent programs focused on economic empowerment for divorced and widowed women from at-risk families the Western Basin state. In partnership with several local associations, Qatar Charity provided training and material inputs for women in order that they were able to start their own income generating activities to help them secure an income to support their families.
