CAMEROON
1 KILLED IN BOKO HARAM CROSS-BORDER ATTACK
Boko Haram has reportedly attacked policemen in Kousseri, Cameroon (Extreme North) on 4 May in an attempt to free a detained member of the group. The insurgents—normally concentrating attacks in northeast Nigeria—have been active in Cameroon this year: in April, two Italian priests and a Canadian nun were kidnapped and in February a Cameroonian chief was kidnapped, both reportedly by the group.
57 PER CENT CAR REFUGEES ARE CHILDREN
UNHCR completed profiling of refugees this week, revealing that 57 per cent are children; 53 per cent are female; 96 per cent of refugees are Muslim; and 80 per cent of school-age children have never been to school. Since March 2013, 82,755 Central Africans have sought refuge in Cameroon, 76,619 of who arrived since January 2014.
ASSISTANCE TO TCNs/MIGRANTS FROM CAR TO RESUME
IOM operations in Cameroon on hold since mid-April due to a lack of funding, will resume this week thanks to a CERF funding allocation. The halt in activities prevented the transfer of TCNs from border entry points to transit sites, and the establishment of transit sites. Figures on TCNs/migrant have also not been updated for three weeks.
CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC (CAR)
1,300 RELOCATED MUSLIMS ARRIVE IN NORTHERN CAR, 2 KILLED IN ATTACKS 1,300
at-risk Muslims were relocated from the volatile PK-12 neighbourhood in Bangui to the north of the country from 27 April-1 May. The escorted convoy was attacked en route killing at least two and injuring seven.
MSF HALTS NON-EMERGENCY ACTIVITIES DUE TO VIOLENCE
Following the killing of three staff members during an attack in Nanga Boguila (northern CAR) last week, MSF is halting all non-emergency assistance in CAR. 15 KILLED IN ATTACKS IN THE NORTH;
UNHCR STAFF MEMBER KILLED IN BANGUI
On 2 May, 15 people were killed in an attack in Markounda (northern CAR). The attack occurred some 30km from the scene of last week’s attacks on the MSF clinic where 16 were killed, including MSF staff. On 1 May, a UNHCR staff member was kidnapped and killed in Bangui marking the second consecutive week that aid workers are killed in CAR.

for Humanitarian Affairs, Valerie Amos, is in Chad from 5-6 May to take stock of the humanitarian situation and response, including food insecurity and malnutrition in the Sahel belt of Chad.
MALI
1,900 MALIAN REFUGEES RETURN TO MALI
As of 2 May, q total of 1,900 Malian refugees in Niger voluntarily returned to Gao, Mali. Their return was facilitated with transport and cash provided by UNHCR.
NIGERIA
19 KILLED IN ABUJA BOMBING
A bombing in the capital on 1 May killed at least 19 people. This attack comes two weeks after a deadly bombing in the same neighbourhood killed some 75 people.
