Syria: Fighting continued, with rebel forces making noteworthy gains of strategic Government strongholds in Lattakia and near Aleppo. Syria's air force bombarded a suburb northwest of Damascus, killing seven and violating a truce that had been in place since October. The total number of Syrians registered or waiting to register as refugees outside Syria stands at 2,597,427. The total number of people displaced internally and externally now exceeds 40% of Syria’s pre-conflict population.

Guinea: A fast-spreading epidemic of deadly Ebola haemorrhagic fever was declared in four southeastern districts, where 86 cases and 59 deaths have been reported. UN health officials have expressed concern that the highly contagious disease, which has not been recorded in Guinea before, may have spread to neighbouring Liberia and Sierra Leone after reports of cases with similar symptoms.

South Sudan: Inter-communal clashes and fighting between armed groups reportedly continued in the eastern part of South Sudan, affecting especially Malakal and Maban counties in Upper Nile state, Cueibet county in Lakes state, Twic East county in Jonglei state, and Leer county in Unity state. At 19 March, OCHA reported that access constraints were increasingly hampering the delivery of aid, forcing humanitarian organisations to resort to airlifting supplies, especially in Unity, Jonglei and Upper Nile states.
