1. Executive Summary
Over the past four years the Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS) has undergone major transition including the restructure of its governance and senior leadership; as well as the departure of many of its Movement partners, including the relocation of the IFRC regional office to Cote d’Îvoire. As a result, the National Society faces challenges in a range of areas, particularly in respect to the capacity and sustainability of the organization in the longer term.
In 2012, Nigeria experienced its worst flooding in more than 40 years and following a call for assistance by the National Society, the IFRC launched an Emergency Appeal to assist the affected population until the end of December 2013. The IFRC has re-established a country representation in Nigeria as a result of the Emergency Appeal with the intention of help the National Society in the longer term.
