Senegal: New Financing Agreements between the IDB and Number of Member Countries for USD231 Million

On the occasion of the 38th Annual Meeting of the IDB Board of Governors held in Dushanbe, Republic of Tajikistan, a number of financing agreements have been signed under which the Bank shall participate in financing new development projects in (10) member countries (in addition to the Republic of Kosovo) for a total amount of USD230.9 million , The details are as follows:

1 . The Republic of Tajikistan

Loan for USD10 million, to participate in phase-3 in the Dangara Valley Irrigation Project with the objective of poverty reduction among the population.

  • Loan - Line of finance to the National Bank of Tajikistan for USD 6 million from the Islamic Solidarity Fund for Development, to support micro enterprises in rural areas. A Technical Assistance grant of USD260,000 from the IDB resources has also been approved for the same project.

  • A Technical Assistance grant for USD250,000 for the Tajik Investment Committee and the Tajik Committee for the Management of State Properties.

2 . Senegal

Financing for 3 projects for a total of USD84.4 million, as follows:

  • Financing for USD61 million to participate in Phase II of the Dakar Highway Project.

  • Supplementary financing for USD8.4 million to participate in the construction and equipping of the Dalal Jamm Hospital Project. The Bank has previously participated in financing the project for USD10 million. Thus the Bank’s total financing for the project is USD18.4 million.

  • Loan for USD15 million to participate in the Women Economic Empowerment Project and creation of employment opportunities for the Youth.

3 . Uganda

USD39.7 million for financing two projects:

  • Financing for USD34 million to participate in enhancing food security through provision of the necessary machinery and equipment for increasing the country’s rice production.

  • Loan for USD5.7 million to participate in financing the Millennium Village Project which aims to support the government efforts to achieve the Millennium Development Goals. The Islamic Solidarity Fund for the Development will also provide a loan for USD4 million for the same project.

4 . Burkina Faso

  • A total financing for USD14 million to participate in the regional program for supporting small farmers and increasing agricultural production. The program also includes Benin, Cameroon, Mali and Niger.

5 . Guinea

  • Loan for USD12.2 million to participate in a rural project and improve sewer system services in two provinces. This includes improvement of basis services in 318 villages.

6 . Mozambique

  • Loan for USD10 million to support and develop health services provided to Inhamban area. This includes participation in building a hospital and development of the Health Training Institution the same area.

7 . Sierra Leone

Financing for an amount USD20 million to participate in a project for supporting small farmers and enable them to access the local market, thus helping in the achievement of food security and reduction of poverty.

8 . Gambia

Financing for USD20 million to participate in the road project linking the towns of Skota and Gambajili.

9 . Sudan

A Technical Assistance grant for USD260,000 for the benefit of Kalamandu rural hospital project in North Darfur.

10 . Afghanistan

A Technical Assistance grant for USD200,000 to finance a feasibility study for establishing an International Islamic University to meet Afghanistan’s human resources needs.

11 . Kuwait and IDB Group Signing of a Member Country Partnership Strategy (MCPS) between the Kuwait and the IDB Group until 2016. The MCPS is a framework agreement prepared by the Bank in consultation and coordination with each member country. The MCPS takes into consideration the development priorities of each member country individually. To date MCPS agreements have been signed with 10 member countries, and more agreements are in the pipeline.

  1. A Memorandum of Understanding between the Islamic Research and Training Institute (IRTI) and Tajikistan National Library The MoU signed between the two parties emphasizes cooperation in the area of knowledge exchange.

  2. Republic Kosovo

  • An amount of USD20 million to participate in financing the upgrading of the main road linking Millosheve to Mitrovica

  • Signing a framework agreement between the IDB Group and the Republic of Kosovo with the objective of coordinating and enhancing the existing cooperation between the two parties, including facilitation and guarantees provided by the Government of Kosovo for the IDB Group operations in Kosovo.
