Somalia: Japan provides 540 mln. USD to support peace efforts in Africa

Addis Abeba March 18/2013 Japan provided 540 million USD support for activities being carried out to maintain peace and stability in Africa. Spokesperson of the Japanese Foreign Affairs Ministry, Masaru Sato told ENA that the support will be used to undertake activities to resolve conflict and help refugees and displaced persons. Some 190 million USD of the amount will be used to assist the displaced in West African countries. Some 140 million USD will also be used for similar activities in countries of the Horn of Africa while 60 million USD of this amount will go for maintaining peace and security in Somalia. The Spokesperson said 100 million USD is allocated to support refugees and the displaced in Sudan and South Sudan. Japan has also provided humanitarian support to Great Lakes Region and also contributed to back activities of the African-led International Force in Mali (AFISMA). The Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) is a forum to support African development.
